FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Robbie Blair holds off DJ Troutman for Independent Racing Series ‘Rock’ win

The current series point leader, Blair, of Titusville, Pa., worked himself into position in the final eight laps of the 40-lap main event. The stop on the IRS tour was the first-ever appearance at The Rock and Blair added his name to the long winner’s list from sanctioned Super Late Model races.

He won by running down both Troutman, one of the hottest drivers at the speedway in the past month, and Pencil, the three-time track champion. Pencil trailed Blair to the finish in the runner-up spot. D.J. Myers was third and Troutman faded to fourth.

Troutman had led every lap and looked strong through the halfway point. The rest of the top five shuffled behind him and Blair fell as far back as sixth on lap 13.

Fast qualifier and pole-sitter Jason Covert’s night ended prematurely on lap 14 when he tangled with Pencil on a restart while trying to hold on to second. Covert spun in turn two and was collected by Devin Friese.

Blair moved back up over Pencil and Myers to get second by lap 16. Under green through lap 25, Troutman had built as much as a 2.5 second lead.

Troutman’s lead started to dwindle and a caution on lap 32 made up the rest of the distance for Blair. Two laps later, Blair fought to the inside of Troutman, first in turn two and again in turn four. After another lap of side by side jostling, Blair pulled ahead from the bottom groove in turn four on lap 35.

Pencil got second on the next lap but trailed Blair to the finish line by almost a second. Behind Myers and Troutman, Chuck Harper was fifth, Keith Jackson, sixth, Dave Hess Jr., seventh, Mike Knight, eighth, Greg Fetters, ninth, and Nick Dickson, 10th.

As England and O’Neal began to close in on Marlar in traffic, Larry Gray would draw the third caution of the race on lap 24 when he rolled to a stop in turn two.

Rick Aukland the Class of the Field during IRS event at Tyler County Speedway

By Chris Tilley (Independent Racing Series P.R. Director)

CONTACT: (606) 219-1723 or tilleyracing@hotmail.com

MIDDLEBOURNE, WV (July 12, 2008)—Rick Aukland wants another IRS Championship!

The veteran Zanesville, OH hot-shoe may just have his shot at another Independent Racing Series title after picking up his first event win of the season while becoming the eighth different winner during the Fifth Annual Eaton/Childers ‘King of the Ring’ event at the Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, WV on Saturday Night July 12, 2008 in front of a packed house.

The Hall-of-Famer pocketed $5,000 while driving the K&E Trucking, Chase Race Decals sponsored Malcuit Racing Engines MasterSbilt Race Car to the event win.

Butch McGill and Steve Shaver brought the field of 24 to life with McGill going to the early lead. Aukland would come from his third starting spot to be in contention to win by the sixth lap already around Shaver for second spot.

Aukland would make his move with ten just circuits into the event and by lap 16 would secure the position for his second-career win on the tour. Aukland’s only other series event win came in October 2007 at the Skyline Speedway.

The first of only four cautions would come out on the start as a chain reaction of four cars back in the mid-pack slowed the field. The second yellow flag came on the second lap as Freddie Carpenter spun in turn one. Chuck Harper and Mike Eaton would mix it up in turn two on the fourth circuit resulting in both cars going to the tail for spinning.

The restarted lap would see Robbie Blair, Doug Horton and Donnie Dotson tangle up in turn four with wreckers having to pull apart Blair and Horton.

The final 36 circuits would see a green to checkered finish with Aukland holding off fourth place starter Tim Dohm for second, 11th starting Paul Wilmoth Jr. was third, second place starter Steve Shaver was fourth and Donnie Moran rounded out the top-five.

The series heads to the Stateline Speedway in Busti, NY for a 50-Lap $5,000 to win main event this Saturday Night July 19th.
